Day 350 - Keep on Keeping On

Some people are living history. My dad-in-law is one of these people… born right after the Great Depression, through complete segregation in the South, through Second World War, through the Civil Rights movement, through some very difficult times, through loss, this man has always been a visionary and a positive man. It is from him that Keith has inherited his love for reading, poetry, and music. Bill would always say to me: “Hey, woman, stop worrying about things… keep on keeping on…” I always try to remember that. When I feel difficulties or doubt myself, I think of the life this man has lived… He might have not been always perfect, but has always been someone to look up to. When I think about major decisions in my life or our life as a family, I always think “What would Bill do?” The answer always has to do with: Bill would do what does not create extra stress…that is what Bill would do. “Woman, if there is nothing I can do about something, I don’t worry about it.” I try not to forget that. Bill has never been greedy for things or money, and never a show off (even though in college his nick name was Greedy just because of how much he loved to eat.) He would always say: “I do not invest in things I don’t understand. I don’t care what the upside might be.” The man is always reasonable, grateful, and always 100% honest. Unlike my side of the family, Bill would never give you advice you did not ask for, but if you decide to ask for one - get ready for the truth. Anyway, I just fee grateful to know you, Bill. I have learned a lot from you and want to be like you in so many ways. And I will keep on keeping on and strive for that state of relative contentment that you always talk about. Thank you, man!
