Day 351 - Texts & Emojies

These days it seems people get married and divorced over text, they do business, fire and hire employees, or many have the freedom to say things they would never dare say in your face… And then emojis are there to “deepen” the context of that distant way to communicate even further. You get a text, and you have no idea how to respond and how to use your words - no problem: bunch of emojis are there to save the day. And while some of them are cute and sweet… words are words. I personally prefer to talk on the phone, and more specifically, I love to facetime. I like seeing people when I talk to them. Sometimes, I feel like turning off so many futures on my phone, including texting… to just take a break. You are in the middle of something, and ding - a text message. Anyway, texts and emojis are all good, but I feel both can often lead to misunderstandings, as their meanings can be subjective and context dependent. The whole idea of writing something short to say something meaningful, often can lack nuance and depth, making it challenging to convey any complex emotions or ideas accurately. Another thing about using texts and emojis is the potential misinterpretations due to cultural differences, which could lead to unintended offense or confusion. Anyway, if you want to know the address of the coffee shop we are meeting at, lets text. But if you want to discuss something important, or meaningful - call me. I really don’t get young people these days that text and text and text… just pick up the phone and speak.
